Lexi Lemons is a dance educator, choreographer, and emerging artistic director based in Topeka, Kansas. She is the founder of Aperture Dance & Aperture Dance Ensemble, a developing performance group focused on mixed repertoire and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Lexi began her training at the Knoxville Performing Arts Institute in Tennessee under Jackie Crabtree, who studied with Bob Fosse. After returning to Kansas, she continued her training and performance work at Barbara’s Conservatory, where she performed in annual productions of The Nutcracker for nearly a decade. At age 11, she became a Company member of Ballet Midwest and eventually Company Representative.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Washburn University, where she was actively involved in both the dance and theatre communities. During her time at Washburn, she was a four-year member of the Dancing Blues, serving as team captain during her senior year. She also performed in multiple theatre productions and was an active member of the WU Players, holding leadership roles ranging from secretary to president.

Lexi has pursued additional training through extended study at Millennium Dance Complex in LA, working with industry professionals across hip hop and contemporary styles. She has also participated in instructor workshops with international dance organizations, expanding her approach to choreography and movement education.

Her choreographic work has won several awards at both state and national levels for pageant systems & dance competitions. In 2015, Lexi worked as the Assistant Artistic Director for the ITAV Chocolate Nutcracker, creating original choreography & story building for a cast of 50+ community dancers. Then in 2021 she served as choreographer for a production of A Chorus Line at the Topeka Performing Arts Center.

In addition to her work in dance, Lexi maintains a background in photography, which drives her interest focus on visual storytelling. With the Aperture Dance Ensemble, she aims to create original works that blend movement, music, and theatrical elements while fostering opportunities for collaboration within the local arts community.

As Lexi begins her 20th year of teaching she looks forward to welcoming students to Aperture Dance. Dance and teaching have been a passion and a way of life for Lexi since she was a child, and she is honored to be able to pass that love on to others who share that passion!
